Armen Minasyan: Lavrov and Nalbandian buried Baku’s dream
After the assessments made by Foreign Affairs Ministers of Armenia and Russia during their meeting, we can conclude that Azerbaijan failed not only on the military but also on the diplomatic front, said political scientist Armen Minasyan.
“It is obvious that by initiating the unprecedented escalation on the Line of Contact, Baku had one aim to annihilate the tripartite agreement of 1994. The logics of Baku’s operations was to achieve significant changes of the situation on the Line of Contact using the surprise factor, thereby creating a new situation, which will have its description and affirmation in an alleged new document. Their aim was to leave Nagorno Karabakh Republic out of the alleged agreement, thereby changing the content of the conflict, which they would use for gaining advantage in further political process,” noted Minasyan underlining that the results of negotiations held in Yerevan hint that Baku’s intentions failed.
The political scientist noted, although Baku had lost all possibilities to achieve success on the military front, there were concerns Azerbaijan would succeed diplomatically, because of the lack of interest of the international community in South Caucasus.
“Ministers Lavrov and Nalbandian’s statements made clear that Azerbaijan is left empty-handed. Besides the Armenian parties, the mediators too have no intention of annihilating the current ceasefire agreement,” Minasyan said.
He also noted that this doesn’t mean that ‘Azerbaijan will stop its operations, yet it is obvious that at least for now neither the Armenian sides, nor the mediators have any intention of yielding to Baku’s blackmail’.
