Catholicos of All Armenians highlights historical injustices the Armenian, Cyprus peoples faced
His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians received Cyprus delegation at Mother See of Holy Echmiadzin. Cyprus House member, head of the Cyprus delegation to PACE Sophoclis Fittis and University of Cyprus (UCY) Rector Konstantinos Christofides visited Armenia to take part in the Second Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide. NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov accompanied the delegation.
His Holiness welcomed the representatives of Cyprus highlighting the importance of hosting delegates from all over the world on a notable date for Armenia, April 24.
His Holiness then highlighted the historical similarities the two friendly peoples went through, adding he is well aware of the losses Cyprus has suffered and the injustices it has faced throughout its history.
Catholicos of All Armenians expressed confidence that he justice will be restored due to belief of the two Christian nations through strengthening the states and sincere efforts of the international peace-loving community.
For his part, Sophoclis Fittis shared his impressions of the international forum, reiterating the Cyprus people solidarity with the Armenians.
Cyprus House MP reflected on the Cyprus Armenian community activities, highlighted the warm relations between the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Cyprus Orthodox Church.
Rector of Cyprus University presented the intercultural and educational exchange programs between Armenian, Cyprus students, informed about the courses of the Armenian language at the University
The interlocutors next touched upon the Karabakh conflict, specifically the latest developments after Azerbaijan unleashed military operations along the entire Line of Contact between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan, which triggered protests and condemnation among the Armeniancy.
