Armenia approaches stability, according to Media Sustainability Index-2016 report
IREX international organization published “Media Sustainability Index, 2016” report. Armenia is approaching media stability with a positive dynamics.
According to the report, Armenia’s overall score is 2.55, which is an increase since 2015 when the score was 2.34. Moreover, Armenia has the highest score among the countries included in the report. 21 post-Soviet and Eastern Europe countries have been observed within the framework of the report.
From the point of view of media sustainability, Armenia approaches the category leaving Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova and Romania behind.
According to overall observations, no negative changes have been recorded in Armenia concerning media sustainability. There are no legislative obstacles limiting local and international media access, no journalists have detained for exposing the source of publication, no cases of assault against journalists, no serious cases of free speech restriction have been recorded. A noticeable increase in professionalism was observed.
Among problems, individual cases of violence against journalists during demonstrations and rallies without any serious consequences are mentioned.
Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have the least media sustainability among the observed 21 countries.
