Swiss artist to add a bit of silver to Yerevan buildings
An exhibition by Swiss Artist Felice Varini will be opened at “Hay Art” center on May 3 entitled “Fifteen view points” («Quinze points de vu»), Ambassador of Switzerland to Armenia Lukas Gasser told reporters at the press conference.
The exhibition is organized within the scope of Francophonie Days in Armenia by the Embassy of Switzerland in Armenia and “International Cultural Dialogue” organization.
The Ambassador stressed that Felice Varini is a unique artist and his works are quite impressive.
“We may say the architecture to be his painting that is to say he is painting not on the canvas but rather on architectural elements, creating unique art works,” the Ambassador said.
To note, Felice Varini is mostly known for his geometric perspective-localized paintings in rooms and other spaces, using projector-stencil techniques. Felice paints on architectural and urban spaces, such as buildings, walls and streets. The paintings are characterized by one vantage point from which the viewer can see the complete painting (usually a simple geometric shape such as circle, square, line), while from other view points the viewer will see ‘broken’ fragmented shapes.
Board member of the “Cultural Dialogue” NGO Sona Andreasyan described the Swiss artist as a one of the most unique creators of the modern art.
“We are confident the cooperation with him will bring new breath, serve an impetus for the Armenian culture,” Andreasyan stressed.
Felice Varini visits Armenia for the first time and while he is getting familiarized with Yerevan, assures to find places to derive inspiration for future works.
Felice Varini noted then that pink and dark pink colored buildings are dominant in Yerevan, and he deems to add a little of silver or other contrast colors in case he works on a chosen building.
“Every time I try to make certain contrasts out of the colors in order for any work to acquire autonomy. My works may neither disguise the reality nor alter it, rather to preserve the features of that reality through generating new elements. This is not to be a decorative painting,” the artist said.
The Swiss artist is about to held meetings within his visit with the coming tour at Tumo Center for Creative Technologies and later at “Mirozyan” library.
