Media reports: Al Jazeera to pay more attention to covering despotism ruling in Azerbaijan
The problem of human rights and democracy norms violations in the totalitarian Azerbaijan was discussed in the UN headquarters in New York, the website of Azerbaijani newspaper Azadliq reports.
More than 200 delegates from different countries of the world took part in the event called “Forum for changes” organized by British Concordia Forum in the UN headquarters. Along with socio-political and global issues, they discussed the problem of despotism in Azerbaijan.
According to the report, Azerbaijani-born American Emil Ismail, a social-political activist, participated in the forum and discussed the democracy situation, human rights violation problems, and issues connected with illegal arrests in Azerbaijan withUS congressional representativesKeith Ellison and Yvette Clarke.
Emil Ismail asked Huma Abedin, the US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's assistant, to “stand by the Azerbaijani nation in democracy and human rights issues” in case, Clinton is elected a president. Ismail informed Abedin about the political prisoners’ problems in Azerbaijan and the illegal persecution of the opposition leaders.
The activist discussed the catastrophic human rights situation in Azerbaijanalso with the famous Al Jazeera host Mehdi Hasan and asked him to pay more attention to illegal arrests and human rights situation in Azerbaijan in his programs.
In his turn, Mehdi Hasan noted that he is aware of the despotism in Azerbaijan and expressed regret that in such conditions, the US “keeps cordial relations with president IlhamAliyev’s totalitarian regime.” He also emphasized that Al Jazeera will take more time covering Azerbaijan-related issues.
During the forum, the activist discussed the problem of the Azerbaijani totalitarianism with Brooklyn city mayor Eric Adams, high-standing officials from the United States Department of Homeland Security and Department of State, as well as with Coca Cola International's president Ahmet Bozer.
