Brazilian Ambassador to Armenia: I am confident Armenian athletes will conquer medals at the Olympic Games
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brazil to Armenia Edson Marinho Duarte Monteiro presented the preparatory works of the Olympics spoke about Zika virus and the money spent for the Games during an interview with reporters, National Olympic Committee of Armenia (NOAC) reports.
Commenting on the preparatory works of the Olympics, the Ambassador said: ‘‘it's a big honor for Brazil to host the Olympic Games. We want to show and prove that Brazil is able to host such a great sporting event. The first step of the Olympics is already made: the Olympic flame has reached Brasilia. Through the Olympics we will show the world who we are''.
The Ambassador then spoke of the security: ''There will be 47,000 security professionals for the security of the Olympics, besides, almost 38,000 police officers will ensure the safety of participants''.
''39, 7 billion reals were spent on these Olympics which amounts to 12 billion US dollars. The 57 percent of this amount has been invested by private companies and 43 percent by the government,’' Edson Marinho said about the expenses of the Olympics.
At the end the Ambassador reflected on the participation of Armenian athletes, 'I have already got acquainted with the venues where the Greco-Roman wrestling tournament of the Olympics is going to be held and I am confident that Armenian athletes will conquer gold medals at the Olympics,'' Ambassador of Brazil said.
