Davit Babayan comments on the developments in Artsakh
The Artsakh issue and Artsakh in general is a unifying idea. We should be united irrespective of our political approaches, without any speculations and narrow political goals, press secretary to the President of Artsakh Davit Babayan told Pamorama.am reporter when asked to comment on the meeting between Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan and Armenian first President Levon Ter-Petroyan.
Babayan informed that Ter-Petrosyan visited Artsakh to get familiarized with the situation on the ground, and a number meetings and discussions were held including with Artsakh National Assembly Speaker, Prime Minister and Commander staff of the army.
To remind former President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan after a meeting with President of Nagorno Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakyan noted both the Armenian leadership and the Karabakh leadership are calmly and moderately doing whatever the current situation demands.
Babayan then informed that NKR closely tracks the concentration of the Azerbaijani forces on the border, and whenever necessary are ready “to neutralize possible threats.”
“May is a unique month for the Armenian nation – a month of victories, and Azerbaijan has its unique way “marking” it. We therefore should not exclude any kind of provocation on their part,” Babayan noted at the same time dismissing claims those concentrations cause panic or disturbances.
“The possibility of a large-scale war exists - though diminished today, especially after the adversary failed in the four day war and also considering the position of the international community, the OSCE Minsk group in particular who consider any military option as unacceptable,” Babayan stressed.
Press secretary to Artsakh President also commented on the news that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev awarded the Azeri military that beheaded an Armenian soldier. Babayan suggested that a Turkish factor played a role there.
“That is a demonstration of terrorism and fascism, an act against humanitarianism. Furthermore, according to some data, the Turkish factor played a role there, as Turkey perceives Yazidis and Kurds as a one entity, which is not true, of course. Some reports suggest that Turkey requested to award the one who beheaded the soldier thus sending an alarm to the Kurdish people,” Babayan said, adding that the aside from the Azerbaijani award, the villain received a Turkish award as well.
