Azerbaijan isn’t ready for large-scale war, political scientist says
The possibility of Azerbaijan launching a large-scale war is very little, said head of Caucasus Institute, political scientist, Alexander Iskandaryan.
“After the military operations, it was clear that Azerbaijan won’t start a large-scale war at this point,” he said.
According to the political scientist, it is very likely of Azerbaijan to continue violations, as well as to start military operations resembling those launched in April.
“If they wanted war, they would have started it. The events that took place before April 5 showed that they don’t wish to start a war. Their aims are political. They are not ready for a large-scale war as they fear there would be a response,” Iskandaryan said noting that the situation will remain the same on the Line of Contact.
According to him, such conflicts can proceed in two scenarios.
“Let us conditionally name “Cyprus” the conflict during which no one recognizes anything, yet no one is firing. The second one, “Israel”, the conflict during which no one recognizes anything, sometimes the parties negotiate, sometimes they start military operations. We’ve never had a chance for the “Cyprus” one, so we’ll live by the “Israel” scenario,” he said.
