Azerbaijani President’s assurances don’t inspire much faith, Serzh Sargsyan says
During the meeting in Vienna, the Armenian side was trying to find out whether or not the negotiations are in a deadlock, President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan told the journalists on the way back to Armenia.
“Our aim was to find out whether or not the negotiations are in a deadlock, whether there is no way out other than war, or it is possible to settle the conflict with minimal losses,” the President said.
“In general, I and my colleagues are satisfied with the results of the meeting, and we’ll be able to speak about this more clearly after the statement of the Co-Chairs. There’s no need to speak about the details considering several circumstances. Nevertheless, the Azerbaijani President assured that he and his country don’t have any intention of settling the problem through military operations,” Sargsyan added.
In the meantime, President Sargsyan said that Azerbaijani President’s assurances should be treated with scepticism.
Sargsyan said that these talks don’t inspire much faith, as the agreements have been violated times and again in the past.
“Yet we don’t have any right to be guided only by our assumptions and predictions, because war isn’t the best solution. So we’ll see how the events will develop. Anyway we’re prepared for any outcome. Indeed our desire is for it to be a peaceful one,” the President said.
