‘Museum is a place, a world where I feel my best’

“When there are valuable paintings, books, photos, other works of art created with devotion and love everywhere, and you look upon them for a while and cannot take your eyes off of them, you feel proud four your nation that gave birth to these talented people who will leave a unique inheritance for generations to come. This day is another chance to visit museums where the good and the beautiful prevail,” expert on Yerevan, Naira Khachatryan told Panorama.am.

It should be noted that in 2016 in Armenia the “Night of Museums” event will be held on May 21. It is held on the proposal of one of the oldest international organizations on the field of cultural heritage: that is the International Council of Museums (ICOM). Since 1977 on May 18 “The International Museum Day” brings together more than 30 thousand museums in 5 capitals of the world and calls for activities and takes initiatives in the framework of the proposed theme for the year. Every year a special theme events offered that allows you to emphasize the multifaceted activities of museums. This year's motto is "Museums and cultural landscapes."

The "Night of Museums" was launched in 2005, with the supported ICOM, UNESCO and the Council of Europe. The purpose of this day is to enhance the role of museums in social and cultural life of society, to create an environment conducive to the popularization of the museum exhibits. This year about 112 active museums are involved in the spring action. On May 21 and on May 18 during the International Museum Day from 18:00pm till midnight museums will be open to all visitors. During these two days, the museums will open their doors and provide the public with diverse and special events, which will once again cast a retrospective look at the long history and cultural heritage of the Armenian people. The purpose of the event is to re-emphasize the value of cultural heritage in the museum environment to synthesize different kinds of art and to provide a pleasant cultural environment.

Armenian language teacher, Gayane Minasyan visits museums with her pupils very often.

“I attach great importance to these visits. The children get acquainted with our art, get information about the artists, learn to appreciate beauty, and understand what real art is. Today children don’t read books that much, and there are almost no TV programs about art, so we should fill this gap,” she said.

“After my classes I go to museum, where I spend most of my day, only after that I go home. It’s like my second home. In a museum, you enter a world which you won’t find elsewhere. You only take the beauty and the good from this world. It’s a place where you forget the dull and monochrome days of the real world. For me, museum is a place, a world where I feel my best,” said art critic Anna, 21.
