Preparatory works of Aivazovsky’s 200th anniversary to be discussed in Crimea
Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev will convene a consultation on Crimea museums on May 23. Among topics to be discussed are the preparatory works of marking the 200th anniversary of the one of the best-known and most popular painters in the world - Hovhannes Aivazovsky (Hovhannes Ayvazyan) (1817-1900), Ria Novosti reports.
According to the report, Theodosia town, where Aivazovsky spent his childhood, suggested to mark the anniversary of the painter at the federal level through declaring 2017 - Year of Aivazovsky. To remind, the 200th anniversary of the painter will be marked in July-November, 2017.
The renovation works of Crimean museums will be on the agenda of the consultation. The list includes number of historical palaces castles, libraries, and reservoirs in Crimea and Sevastopol, the agency writes.
As reported early, Tretyakov Gallery is preparing a large-scale monographic exhibition of Aivazovsky’s works dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Russian-Armenian painter. The exhibition presents about 100 paintings and 50 graphic works, 12 works from the collection of the National Gallery of Armenia among them. The curators’ selection will allow the viewers to see the best examples of Aivazovsky paintings: seascapes, battle scenes, graphics works.
