Chairman of Yerevan Press Club on preparing for next round of negotiations
The most important thing during the past few days after the Vienna meeting is preparing for the negotiations, said Chairman of the Yerevan Press Club, Boris Navasardyan during a press conference.
“Before the next round of the negotiations, the most important question is who can avoid subverting the negotiations in this tactical battle. The one who does will be held responsible before the international community,” he said.
According to Navasardyan, Armenia should do anything possible to show its constructive approach. Yet this approach means nothing without the introduction of monitoring mechanisms on the Line of Contact.
Besides the negotiations, Navasardyan thinks, there are also secondary problems which are important for the Armenian domestic and foreign policies. These are the lessons Armenia needs to learn. First one being that glorification of any partner distracts Armenia from reaching its goals.
“We’ve witnessed how Armenia idealized Russia as its main guarantee for security, yet we saw the disappointment of the public after the Four Day War in April,” he said.
According to Navasardyan, Armenia should understand one simple thing, that there is no Great Power in the world to burden itself with Armenia’s problems or to provide security and economic prosperity.
He also added that Armenia should have alternative partners to be helpful in a variety of controversial developments.
The next lesson, Navasardyan thinks, is having an independent policy to be taken seriously.
