Bundestag President criticized Erdogan
President of the German Bundestag, Norbert Lammert sharply criticized Turkish President, Recep Tayipp Erdogan’s offensive comment targeted at Bundestag Turkish MPs.
“I couldn’t have thought it possible that in the 21st century a democratically elected head of state would criticize members of the German Bundestag by doubting their Turkish heritage and by labelling their blood impure. I deny all accusations that members of this parliament are aiding terrorists,” Lammert said, according to Sueddeutsche Zeitung.
Bundestag President expressed his regrets that Turkish officials voice their protest with calls of hatred.
“We will face up to any criticism, but anybody trying to exert pressure on a parliamentarian using threats must know that they are attacking the entire parliament,” Lammert said.
