Immunity files sent to prosecutors’ offices, Turkish Justice Minister says
A total of 117 files on lawmakers’ immunities were sent to related prosecutors’ offices on June 9, Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ said, announcing the first step in new judicial processes against lawmakers, Hurriyet Daily News reports.
“Some 117 files in the ministry were sent to related prosecutors’ offices,” Bozdağ said on June 10.
According to the source, a constitutional amendment on lifting immunities was published in the Official Gazette on June 8, opening the way for the trial of 152 legislators, amounting to 27.6 percent of the total number of seats, after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s approval.
Cases have been opened against lawmakers and deputies from the opposition parties.
