Sand mine to operate in the place of the demolished Yerevan Youth Palace
Sand mine is under construction in the place of the demolished Youth Palace in the center of Yerevan, Hrach Poghosyan, one of the architects of the Palace told reporters when asked about the future of the much discussed construction on the site.
Poghosyan informed that a Japanese architect won the international tender for a design to construct a new building, yet it was never materialized since the construction company entered bankruptcy.
“He [the owner of the company] was from Martuni region, used to work in the sphere of road construction in Russia. Then he went into bankruptcy, and now we have neither him nor the means with any hope to revive the project. The architect abandoned the project after receiving no funds for the realization of work”, Poghosyan informed.
The Yerevan Youth Palace, once Yerevan landmark, was designed by architects Hrach Poghosyan, Artur Tarkhanyan and Spartak Khachikyan in 1960s and opened in 1979. The building was demolished in 2006 for “not meeting the existing international standards”.
