South Ossetia doesn’t rule out recognition of the Armenian Genocide
The Parliament of South Ossetia will discuss the issue of recognizing the Armenian Genocide of the 1915 by the Ottoman Turkey.
“Recognition of the Armenian Genocide was discussed in the Parliament of South Ossetia last year. However, a formal appeal of the Armenian community came in on Tuesday,” Interfax
quotes the press service of the Parliament.
The issue will be discussed during the coming session. It will be presented by Head of the Parliamentary Committee on legislation, legality and local self-government Olesya Kochieva.
“Several parliamentarians noted that Armenia should in turn recognize the Genocide of Ossetians. Yet that is not mandatory,” the press service of the Parliament stated adding that representatives of the Armenian community are valuable members of their country, and many of them, who are the descendants of the Genocide survivors, had fought for their country’s freedom.
According to the press service of the Parliament, “if the lawmakers pass a positive decision the historical and human justice will be restored towards the brotherly nation”.
