Around 600 journalists to cover Pope’s visit to Armenia
Around 600 journalists applied for accreditation to cover Pope’s visit to the 1st Christian nation, RA Foreign Ministry wrote on their Twitter page.
To remind, Pope Francis will visit Armenia on June 24. The official welcome ceremony will take place at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport. Afterwards, the Pope will visit the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Apostolic Cathedral. Greetings will be given by the Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II and by Pope Francis.
On the same day, meetings with the Armenian President, Serzh Sargsyan, civil authorities and the Diplomatic Corps are planned in the Presidential Palace. At the end of the day, the Pope will meet with Catholicos Karekin II in private.
On June 25, Pope Francis will visit Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex. Afterwards, with Catholicos Karekin II, the Pope will fly to Gyumri to give the Holy Mass at Vartanants Square. The Pope will also visit the Armenian Apostolic Cathedral of the Seven Wounds and Holy Martyrs Armenian Catholic Cathedral in Gyumri. On the same day, Ecumenical Encounter and Prayer for Peace at the Republic Square of Yerevan is planned.
On the last day of his visit, June 26 the Pope will meet with the Catholicos, Archbishops and Bishops of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Catholic Bishops of Armenia and Cardinals and Bishops from the Papal entourage. Afterwards he will meet with delegates and benefactors of the Apostolic Church of Armenia.
At the end of the day, Pope Francis and Catholicos Karekin II will sign a joint Declaration. Afterwards they will deliver a prayer at Khor Virap Monastery.
On the same day, Pope Francis will fly back to Rome.
