Zhirayr Sefilyan arrested
RA Investigative Committee has issued a statement, which reads that on May 20, 2016 RA Police officers have revealed two Ak-74 rifles with120 cartridges during the investigative actions of a car accident on the Tstitsernakaberd highway. According to the statement, the driver and the passenger of the car were detained for illegal procurement and keeping of weapon.
A criminal case was initiated according to Part 2 of the Article 235 of the RA Criminal Code. In the framework of the criminal case investigated the driver, the passenger as well as the circumstances of the circulation of the rifles were identified.
In the result of investigatory and operative-intelligence measure conducted in the framework of the criminal case, it was revealed that Zhirayr Sefilyan with a group of persons had planned to attack buildings, means of communications, the Yerevan tower among them, with the use of weapons through the organized armed group. For the mentioned reason, Sefilyan had organized illegal procurement, transportation and storing of weapons in different locations.
The criminal actions were planned to carry out following the April war, the Investigative Committee details.
On 2010, 2016 in the sight of the above-mentioned car accident two units of rifles and ammunition were revealed which had benn circulated by the group organized by Zhirayr Sefilyan.
The statements reads the in the scope of the criminal investigation, 8 people have been charged with illegal acquisition, transportation and storing of weapons, 6 have been detained, and a search was declared against one person.
On the base of the obtained evidence, Zhirayr Sefilyan was arrested for illegal procurement, transportation and storing of weapon.
Preliminary investigation of the criminal case is ongoing, reads the statement.
To remind, Sefilyan is the leader of Founding Parliament opposition group.
