Flood damages farms and infrastructures in Karchaghbyur village, Armenia
Dozens of farms and infrastructures were damaged in Karchaghbyur village, Gegharkunik province after a flood on June 24 caused by hail and heavy rain.
The flood occurred in the southern part of the village washing rural roads, croplands, farms, barns, basements and damaging drinking water and irrigation channels. Cases of cattle collapses were also recorded.
According to the village administrator, Taron Kocharyan, more than 30cm hail fell on the croplands. The hail lasted about 40 minutes and damaged three districts of the village. For hours, there was a power cut in the village.

“We were having dinner when the hail stared. Suddenly the rain flooded into the room and drove me off my seat. My daughter saved me,” Geghetsik Aghajanyan, 80 said.
“The streets were in flood, and we couldn’t stop it. We immediately entered the barn. The ceiling collapsed. We somehow managed to get the calf out of there alive,” Bavakan Arakelyan said.
Another resident, Hasmik Khurshudyan also reported about the collapse of a barn.
“The extent of damages will be determined by the relevant committees. However, the preliminary picture is clear. The drinking water and irrigation channels, roads, collapsed buildings must be recovered. The damage done to the croplands, which is beyond the local budget, must be compensated. Among the suffered, there are families of serviceman,” the head of the community said.
The extent of the damage is being determined.
