The process of Karabakh negotiations unfavorable for Aliyev, Armen Rustamyan says
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has not realized yet it is meaningless to speak of concessions unless the status of Karabakh independence is determined, Armen Rustamyan, Head of the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun faction told reporters at a briefing held at National Assembly.
“Azerbaijani president’s statement on the phased option of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement resembles his own wish. If that were the topic of the negotiations, that would have been published. One judgment one may make is the process of negotiations seems unfavorable for Aliyev, which is evident from his certain statements,” Rustamyan noted.
To Rustamyan’s words, Aliyev is apparently not interested in installing investigative mechanisms along the Line of Contact, since he plans to violate the ceasefire again in the future and obviously would like to escape international condemnation for that.
Rustamyan next stressed it was not the first time Aliyev spoke of one thing during negotiations and another while back to Baku. The reason is that Aliyev tries to meet the needs of the domestic audience.
“Azerbaijan is playing a double game. From one hand it pretends it wanted to solve the conflict through peaceful means, from the other is preparing for war through conducting military exercises under the mask of trainings” Rustamyan noted.
