Davit Harutyunyan vows to exert every effort for implementing the mechanism of the Electoral Code
“Debated held over the past days at National Assembly showed that even if a positive step is taken, a group of people appears always to slam that positive step for either asserting oneself or other motives,” Davit Harutyunyan, Chief of RA Government Staff, told during the hearing held at Armenia’s National Assembly. The debates were devoted to the amendment to the RA new draft Electoral Code.
Harutyunyan stressed the discussions held for the past days once again highlighted the reached agreement among Armenia’s political forces.
Summing up the debates, Harutyunyan noted that parliamentarians assessed and discussed the Electoral Code as a one single document, not the mechanisms envisaged by the Code, yet the agreement reached by political forces was over the installing the mechanisms of the electoral process.
To remind, political forces of Armenia finalized an agreement to introduce amendments to the Armenia’s Electoral Code. One provision of the legislation requires technical tools to be installed for preregistration ahead of parliamentary elections. The overall funds for the new system comprise 16 million EUR. The government is due to negotiate with donor organizations to loan the funds.
Then government representative ensured that parliamentarians they exert every effort to realize all mechanisms envisaged by the draft Code.
In this regard, Harutyunyan pointed out to available opportunities for obtaining funds to install the relative mechanisms.
“That doesn’t necessarily mean we are going to allocate the rest of the amount from the state budget. We look forward to working with all political forces to look into possibilities for obtaining the funds,” Harutyunyan added, thanking all the forces that had reached the agreement.
