The unrealized dream of a deceased serviceman and his mother’s wish
The family of serviceman Andranik Grigoryan, who heroically died during the Four Day War in April, lives in dilapidated house in remote Haykavan village of Artsakh’s Hadrut region.
Andranik’s mother, his two underage sisters, 19-year-old wife and his two children, 2-year-old Gor and 9-months-old Marat live in a house devoid of basic living conditions.
Andranik’s mother, Mrs. Zina told Panorama.am that her son decided to become a contract serviceman after finishing his obligatory military service. She proudly speaks about her son, saying that he was the only breadwinner of the family and their only hope.
After Andranik’s death, his mother takes care of the family.
“We’ve been living in a dilapidated and wet house for 25 years. I’ve applied to various institutions, yet nothing has been done. Everyone just gives promises. Nobody intends to keep them. We sleep at night with fear. I usually don’t even sleep to keep an eye on the children. When the winds blow, I don’t sleep at all to be able to help the children out of the house in case it trembles. The house cannot be repaired as it’s built on the soil. It is impossible to live here. We’re cut off from everything. There is no transportation, no kindergarten, not even a medical centre. It takes us 1.5 hours to get to the nearest hospital to get children’s vaccinations done,” Mrs. Zina described the conditions the family lives in.
According to Mrs. Zina, they live with the fear that the house can collapse during the rain.
The deceased soldier’s mother has two wishes, for her daughter-in-law and two daughters to receive education and the family to live in normal conditions. “My son wanted to create normal conditions for the family to live in. He wanted to support the girls and his wife to get education. Everything is left unfinished. When my son was alive, I knew that there’s a man in the house, but now we’re completely alone”.
Mrs. Zina said she will do everything for her daughter-in-law, Nina and two daughters to get education. She plans to take them to Stepanakert or Shushi where they’ll continue to study.
Andranik’s wife and 16-year-old sister wish to become pedagogues. His 10-year-old sister wants to become a sniper to take her brother’s revenge.
