Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami dies aged 76
Abbas Kiarostami, the multi-award-winning Iranian director whose 1997 film “Taste of Cherry” was awarded the Palme d’Or at the Cannes film festival, has died aged 76, The Guardian reports.
Kiarostami died in Paris, where he was receiving cancer treatment. However, the media doesn’t clarify what the cause of his death was.
In 1999, Mr. Kiarostami, won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival for his film “The Wind Will Carry Us”.
For his contribution to the international cinema, Abbas Kiarostami won the Parajanov Thaler Award at the Armenian Golden Apricot International Film Festival in 2005.
