Tretyakov gallery to borrow 33 paintings of Aivazovsky
The administration of the Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg will provide 33 paintings by Hovhannes Aivazovsky (Hovhannes Ayvazyan, 1817-1900) to the Tretyakov State Gallery in Moscow on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the prominent artist, TASS Agency reported.
“With regard to the upcoming anniversary of Aivazovsky, leading museums of the country are preparing a large-scale exhibition devoted to the great painter of seascapes. The Russian Museum has a unique collection of masterpieces of the artist, without which the idea of its creativity may not be full,” – said the press service of the Russian Museum.
The pictures of Aivazovsky will be sent to the Russian capital for the period from July to December.
As reported early, Tretyakov Gallery is preparing a large-scale monographic exhibition of Aivazovsky’s works dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Russian-Armenian painter. The exhibition presents about 100 paintings and 50 graphic works, 12 works from the collection of the National Gallery of Armenia among them. The curators’ selection will allow the viewers to see the best examples of Aivazovsky paintings: seascapes, battle scenes, graphics works.
