Seven months ago the Armenian society was delighted over the deterioration of the Russian-Turkish relations, while today it has fallen into despair seeing those relations being restored, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Arman Navasardyan told reporters at a meeting.

According to him, apologies by Turkey’s president to Russia followed after its external and internal factors impacted Turkey’s policy.

“Turkey has been seekinag to join the European Union for many years, having zero fallout thus far. Turkey constantly fails in the Islamic and Arabic directions. Turkey faces major problems with regard to the Kurdish issue. After downing of the Russian jet, Turkey was pulled into such an economic and political turmoil, that it had no way but forced to restore relations with Moscow,” Navasardyan noted, adding developments of the Russian-Turkish relations may have neither positive nor negative affect on Armenia.

“Quite the opposite, I think security guarantees will be increased along the border, since Russia and Turkey apart from dealing with issues of security, should jointly fight the terrorism and ensure secure border for,” Navasardyan told.

As to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Navasardyan predicts no progress  to be observed, since Turkey will not change its stance maintaining its close relations with Azerbaijan, however it may display more flexible policy regarding the conflict and future developments around that.

“I guess Azerbaijani opportunities are diminishing, as it may not compete with both Ankara and Moscow, regardless the fact how flexile policy it may run,” the speaker noted.

The diplomat next reflected on the CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha’s statements in Yerevan, considering them as positive for the Armenian side.

In the occurred conditions, Ambassador Navasardyan says, Armenian diplomacy should display a coordinated approach.

“Armenia should balance in between the two blocs  - the EU and EEU, since we have no other option. Number of factors strengthens Armenia’s positions - Christian European values, envolvement in the eastern civilization, great potential in the face of Armenia’s diaspora. If we could make use of theses factors and apply them to the Russian-Turkish context in the same way, we may only benefit from the current state of their relations,” concluded Navasardyan.
