Political scientist thinks negotiation process aims at preventing another war, rather than settling the conflict
Both the interested parties and mediators demonstrate noticeable activation in the negotiation process directed at the settlement of Karabakh conflict, yet it’s directed at the prevention of another war, rather than the settlement of the conflict, political scientist, Tigran Abrahamyan told Panorama.am .
“At this point, the efforts of the mediators are directed at thwarting Azerbaijani attempts of resolving the conflict through military operations and returning Karabakh to the negotiations table,” Mr. Abrahamyan noted.
According to the political scientist, the Azerbaijani optimistic statements concerning the current negotiation process are an imitation. “There are no reasons to claim that the negotiation process is anywhere near the settlement [of the conflict]. We don’t even see any real progress. Azerbaijan is trying to disguise its true intentions of settling the conflict by military operations under “positive signals”. If we set aside the false optimism, all Azerbaijani statements are directed at disruption of the negotiation process”.
