Italy train crash: At least 27 dead and 50 injured
According to updated data, at least 27 people were killed and dozens more injured on Tuesday when two trains crashed in a head-on collision in the southern Italian region of Puglia, writes The Telegraph.
According to the source, the two trains collided on a stretch of isolated track surrounded by olive trees around 11.30 a.m. between the towns of Ruvo di Puglia and Corato.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Premier Matteo Renzi were among those calling for light to be shed on how the accident could have happened.
Pope Francis said he was praying for the victims.
Amid suspicions of human error or a faulty signal, Transport Minister Graziamo Delrio said that a commission of inquiry would be set up.
