Turkish government could restore death penalty
Turkey's Constitution Council will to consider introduction of death sentence after coup attempt, Turkish PM, Binali Yildirim told journalists, Interfax reports.
“The guilt of the conspirators has been clearly defined within Turkey’s justice system. According to the Constitution, death penalty is abolished,” Yildirim said.
“Today the Constitutional Council will convene a meeting to discuss the feasibility of the re-introduction of the punishment. Inter-party consultations on the subject will also be held,” he added.
To remind, a coup attempt was organized in Turkey on the night of July 15-16. Around 200 people, including civilians were killed, 1440 – wounded, as well as 2639 people have been arrested.
