One police officer killed, another two wounded, Armenia’s NSS reports on the armed incident
Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) has released updated information over the armed incident occurred in Yerevan’s patrol police regiment in Erebouni district of the Armenian capital.
To remind, earlier this morning a group of armed people seized a regiment of the police patrol and inspection service in Yerevan along with several hostages.
The group members identified themselves as supporters of Jirair Sefilian, an opposition figure arrested on June 20 and accused for illegal procurement of weapons with intention for organizing a criminal group to stage armed uprising in the state.
After the early morning armed incident, the Armenian police forces cordoned off the scene, while the country’s security service reported about the negotiations underway with the members of the armed group over the peaceful surrender.
As NSS reports one police officer killed, another two wounded in the course operation undertaken by police special forces. Two hostages are reported to have been released.
According to the official information, RA law-enforcement bodies fully control the situation and take up necessary measures to resolve the situation.
The NSS calls on media outlets to rely on data of official sources while reporting the incident to avoid spreading disinformation and prevent the realization of the criminal actions, which may pose a threat to the life and health of people.
