RA Ombudsman’s Office reports about cases of apparent violations of citizens’ rights
RA Ombudsman's office has released an official statement, which reads:
“Implicit cases of violations of the citizens’ rights were recorded yesterday during the peaceful gathering at Liberty Square in Yerevan. Furthermore, mass media source disseminated information about facts of torture.
Considering the fact those cases contained features of apparent crime, we have submitted them to criminal investigative bodies on deciding the question of initiating a criminal case.
RA Ombudsman will be strictly consistent over the proceedings.
With regard to the gathering, the Human Rights Defender calls on
1. the police to uphold the principals of lawfulness and proportionality, rule out any baseless intervention into the rights the citizens, especially the cases of violence
2. the participants of the gathering to adhere to the peaceful nature of the assembly, refrain from any violence and offence toward the police officers who act within the law.
