U.S. Ambassador to Armenia thinks violence is never an acceptable way to bring political change to Armenia
Violence is never an acceptable way to bring political change to Armenia, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard M. Mills, Jr. told journalists during a briefing, speaking about the current situation at Police HQ in Erebuni, Yerevan.
First of all, the Ambassador extended his condolences to the family of the officer who was killed on Sunday. He also added that they are monitoring the situation closely, primarily because it is one of the U.S. embassy’s first duties to inform American citizens about the safety and security in the city. “We continue to advise American citizens to stay away from Erebuni at this time until the situation is resolved,” Mr. Mills said.
The Ambassador also answered the question about whether or not the U.S. offered its support to the Armenian authorities. “I have not been in direct contact with Armenian authorities since the crisis began on Sunday, but in Washington when the State Department was asked about this crisis, we urged the Government to handle the situation with professionalism and restraint”.
“Now is the time for all Armenians to respect the Rule of Law, so this situation can be brought to a peaceful end, which I believe is what all Armenians want,” he added.
