No tragedy if authorities make some concessions, cultural figures say
Considering Daredevils of Sassoun as patriotic people, I am quite surprised at the assessment of artists who call them terrorists, sculptor Levon Tokmajyan told reporters at a press conference.
Tokmajyan’s comments came during the discussion devoted to the armed incident, which occurred on July 17 in Yerevan and the follow-up hostage standoff.
The sculpture reflected on the statement by Eduard Sharmazanov, representative of the ruling party, who had earlier vowed the commitment of the authorities to resolve the situation without bloodshed, through negotiations.
“That is praiseworthy, however on what topics should the negotiations be conducted? I think the best option is to set Sefilian free,” the sculptor noted, labeling the armed incident as ‘a cry from the heart’.
Composer Llit Petrosyan on her part stressed that members of the armed group have raised an issue, endangering their own life.
“All of us realize whatever solution is given to the situation, the armed group members will fall victim, since they have raised an issue at the expense of their life. I think no tragedy will happen to the authorities, if they make some concessions. They will not suffer decline of approval rating, if they accept certain concessions,” noted Pipoyan.
