Charges pressed for using violence against policemen performing their official duties
Armenia’s Investigative Committee reports that preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated on violence used against police officers performing their official duties on the evening of July 19, 2016 is ongoing in the proceeding of Yerevan Investigative Department.
According to the source, in the result of investigatory actions 3 more persons were identified who were involved in using violence against police officers performing their official duties.
It was earlier informed that in order to provide the citizens’ security and protection of public order related to occupation of the area of Police Patrol Service regiment committed by an armed group on 17 July, 2016, on July 19, 2016 at about 20:00 service was conducted by a number of police officers at the junction of Glinka and Vormnadirner Streets adjacent to Movses Khorenatsi Street of Yerevan. A group of persons used violence against the police officers not obeying their legal requirements on protection of public order. In the result of violence 6 police officers, who are representative of authorities, were inflicted bodily injuries.
On the base of the evidence obtained through preliminary investigation charge was pressed against 3 persons according to the Part 2 of the Article 316 of RA Criminal Code. The investigator submitted motions to court to use detention as a pretrial measure against them. The motions were sufficed.
Thus, in the framework of this criminal case, as of July 25, charge was pressed against 4 persons.
The committee also notes that preliminary investigation is ongoing, necessary investigatory actions are conducted to provide the comprehensive, objective and complete investigation of circumstances of the case, to find the frame of those involved.
