Spanish city of Alicante officially recognized the Armenian Genocide
City council of Alicante, a city in Spain, approved a petition, officially recognizing the Armenian Genocide, RA Foreign Ministry reports.
During the debates held at the City Council representatives of all the parties made statements, highlighting the necessity of recognizing the Armenian Genocide and preventing the crime in the future.
According to the source, the representative of “Compromis” party stressed in his speech that today that is of utmost importance not to forget the great crime committed against the Armenians, considering the fact that mass violations of people’s rights are underway and thousands of lives are threatened in the places, when once the Armenian Genocide was committed.
The majority of the political parties (PSOE, GUANYAR, COMPROMIS) voted in favor of adopting the institutional statement. The petition of the recognition and the condemnation of the Armenian Genocide had been initiated by “Hayastan” association of Alicante city.
