No proper conditions to keep Alek Yenigomshyan in custody, the lawyer says
“Alek Yenigomshyan, Founding Parliament member was arrested, yet there are no proper conditions to keep him in custody, considering Yenigomshyan’s disability.
That was documented by the Ombudsman’s office as well,” Nikolay Baghdasaryan, Yenigomshyan’s lawyer told Panorama.am. To remind earlier, Nikolay Baghdasaryan visited his client who is suspected of assisting the armed group that had seized Erebuni police regiment on July 17.
“To my understanding, it is impossible to ensure the proper conditions for Yenigomshyan’s keeping under arrest, since there has been no previous practice of arresting blind people,” the lawyer stressed, adding failing to provide the proper conditions is classified as torture in violation of the Article 3 of the European Convention of Human Rights, “If an individual is kept in a place where he is unable to eat, move, that is considered to be torture,” Baghdasaryan said. The lawyer next informed that Yenigomshyan is denied a participation in the investigative proceedings, has no access to the case materials, since those are not written in inaccessible language to him, that is on the braille alphabet.
To remind, earlier Pastinfo agency referred to the statement released by National Security Service, reading Yenigomshyan had been detained within the frames of the criminal case initiated on the seizure of the patrol police regiment in Yerevan on July 17.
The National Security Service has informed that considering Yenigomshyan’s disability Braille specialist was invited to ensure Yenigomshyan’s exercising his rights and participating in the judicial-legal proceedings.
