Levon Barseghyan released
President of “Asparez” journalists’ club of Gyumri, Levon Barseghyan has been released. Coming out from Shengavit Investigative Division, he told the journalist that all may carry a 1200 AMD knife, which isn’t a cold weapon according to the examinations.
To remind, through examination of the prepared materials it was found that on July 27, 2016 at about 03:30 Levon Barseghyan was apprehended to Police Station of Shengavit from M. Khorenatsi Street, Yerevan.
Through his personal search, a clasp knife with total length of 18.8 cm with a blade of 8.5 cm was found in the pocket of his trousers. During preparation of materials, criminological examination was commissioned by the Police. Considering that in the materials there are apparently sufficient grounds containing elements of crime envisaged by the Part 4 of the Article 235 of RA Criminal Code, on July 27 a criminal case was initiated in the Investigative Division of Shengavit administrative district. According to RA Investigative Committee, in the framework of the criminal case investigated in the Investigative Division of Shengavit administrative district of Yerevan Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee today the conclusion of criminological examination has been received according to which the knife found with Levon Barseghyan through his personal search is not a cold weapon.
Levon Barseghyan also said that he wasn’t subjected to torture in the detention facility, instead he was ill-treated at Shengavit (Yerevan) and Kumayr (Gyumri) police stations.
“I was subjected to degrading and inhuman treatment. I’ve been kept there for 16 hours without any bases, until the investigator put charges in the evening of July 27. At Shengavit police station I wasn’t allowed to use the bathroom or drink water,” Barseghyan said.
He also said that afterwards he was taken to Gyumri police station again without any bases.
According to Barseghyan, all this was just to keep him isolated.
