I apologise to the journalists: President says lessons to be learnt
“I thank the journalists for their selfless work and contribution to the bloodless resolution. I also apologise to our journalists for the events of the night of July 29-30. That has been the main shortcoming in the course of these days. All lessons will obviously be learnt”, - President Serzh Sargsyan said in a statement today on August 1, speaking in the aftermath of a standoff following the seizure of police station in Yerevan by an armed group “Daredevils of Sassoun”, which was resolved yesterday late in the evening with peaceful surrender of the gunmen.
Speaking to a gathering of a group of artists, medical workers, media representatives, political and community leaders, members of the Public Council, as well as representatives of the government, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and the clergymen, President assured that proper lessons will be learnt as a resulf of the crisis.
“I am asking only the journalists, and not the law enforcement officers, to leave the memory of these incident [of police brutality] in the past, since I am indeed sure that it won’t happen again. I also wish these incidents even subconsciously will never affect your free enterprise in the future”, Sargsyan said.
