Yegishe Petrosyan poses no threat, I have used to know him for a long time, he is an excellent person and artist and I think the sooner he is freed, the better is for all of us, Art Director of Yerevan State Puppet Theatre Ruben Babayan told reporters.

“I call for his immediate release taking into account also his health problems,” Babayan stressed.
To remind, Yeghishe Petrosyan was arrested on July 30 on the suspicion of organizing mass disorders during a rally in support of the armed group.

Babayan recalled that number of people have been arrested in the result of the seizure of the patrol police regiment and the follow-up developments. “I consider majority of them [arrested people] are unjustly kept. Our common duty is to exclude any unlawful persecution. That is quite important”.

To his words, the investigation will reveal the share of the guilt by each member of the armed group, but also how the events unfolded, how the National Security Service acted and how the police regiment was guarded.

“These are also to be considered as crimes. If you fail to implement your official obligations properly, you are committing a crime, especially in a sphere which is closely linked to the state security. What if we had a diversionary group from a third country instead of Daredevils of Sassoun, which could easily break into the security structure? This turns out to be a matter of serious discussion and investigation,” maintained Babayan.

The speaker then added: “In case of an objective investigation, we may find out who was involved in the seizure of the police regiment. I do not tend to blame the opposition for organizing that.”
