Sculptor calls for end to persecution of Daredevils of Sassoun group members
Sculptor Ferdinant Arakelyan hailed the decision of Daredevil of Sassoun group to lay down the arms and surrender to the authorities. Arakelyan’s comments came at a press conference held on Wednesday
Reflecting on the situation in the aftermath of a standoff following the seizure of police station in Yerevan by an armed group Daredevils of Sassoun, the speaker names it as catastrophically hard and even worsening in the view of the Karabakh conflict and the upcoming elections.
To Arakelyan’s words, the opposition should realize that bloodshed may bring no success, and that certain oppositionists are acting according to given instructions from outside forces. “We have more spies in our city than street dogs and cats,” stressed Arakelyan.
On another note, he called on the government to put end to persecution of the armed group members or alternatively impose lighter penalties for them, since their activities ‘were consequences of the hard situation in the state.’
“They entered there [patrol police regiment] by no accidence, the situation in the country is very severe,” maintained Arakelyan.
Film Director Nikolay Tsaturyan, also present at the press conference, was mainly concerned with the upcoming developments, following the standoff and predicted rise in emigration.
