Azerbaijan once again refused to open his doors for Iranians
Despite Iran’s efforts, Azerbaijan doesn’t want to cancel the visa regime for the citizens of Iran, an article published on Qafqaz.ir reads.
“About 7 years ago, Iran provided a visa-free regime for Azerbaijani citizens. Iranian officials applied to the government of Azerbaijan for Baku to cancel the visa regime for Iranians. However, Azerbaijan hasn’t still agreed to that. Even during Hassan Rouhani’s visit to Azerbaijan, the issue wasn’t resolved. Azerbaijan once again refused to open its doors for Iranians,” the author writes, speaking about the cancellation of visa regime.
“Perhaps it’s time we respected the Iranian passport. If Azerbaijan doesn’t provide a visa-free regime for our citizens, we should act adequately to Baku’s steps,” the author states.
It should be noted that a few days ago before Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani’s visit to Baku, Iran’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan announced that Azerbaijan would cancel the visa regime for Iranians.
Some Iranian sources even noted that it had been expected that Baku would announce about the decision during Rouhani’s visit, which didn’t happen.
In an interview with IRIB news agency, Iranian Ambassador in Azerbaijan said that no discussions were held concerning the cancelation of visa regime.
He clarified that instead of cancelling the visa regime, Azerbaijan simplified the procedure of visa issuing, noting that the Azerbaijani authorities could make such decision only with the approval of the Mejlis.
