Missing person from Ararat province in Azerbaijani territory
The Azerbaijani media reported that a resident of Ararat province of Armenia has crossed the border in Nakhijevan and appeared in Azerbaijani territory. The Azerbaijani commission on prisoners of war, missing persons also confirmed the news.
The Azerbaijani media failed to present the man’s name correctly.
Armenpress managed to check the real identity of the missing person. It was Henrikh S. Aghekyan, 1954, a resident of Aygepat village of Ararat province of Armenia. He is likely to have crossed the border on August 7.
Head of the working group of the Armenian State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, Armen Kaprielyan told Armenpress that Aghekyan’s relatives had already submitted a note that he had left the house. Aghekyan suffers from mental illness and he have previously made attempts of crossing the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, but the Armenian side managed to prevent his actions.
“The circumstances of his disappearance are being clarified. After receiving information that he was found on the Azerbaijani territory, we’ve immediately started negotiations demanding our citizen back. We hope it will happen within a reasonable timeframe. I don’t think the process will be delayed, as Azerbaijan has no interest of using a mentally ill person for political purposes. Such people aren’t responsible for their actions. In any case, the country where a foreign citizen has appeared makes certain clarifications, which can last from 1-2 days up to several weeks,” Kaprielyan said.
