Bako Sahakyan: Reasonable, just and equal mutual concessions are necessary
President of the Artsakh Republic Bako Sahakyan gave interview to the electronic newspaper of the French Parliament, Azatutyun radio station reports.
“New phase of the Karabakh conflict settlement will be opened, if Azerbaijan respects the 1994 ceasefire agreement, Nagorno Karabakh joins the negotiation process and the psychological problems arising from the policy of revenge by Azerbaijani is overcome,” President Sahakyan has stated.
“Azerbaijan should be able to refuse from its policy of hatred towards Karabkhis and Armenians, leave its dead-end adventurism and commit itself to respecting the fundamental freedoms and rights of other peoples,” Sahakyan stressed, as quoted by the source.
Artsakh President named the four-day war in April a consequence of “Azerbaijanis anti-Armenian ideology and authoritarianism of its leadership” toward the Armenians.
Reflecting on the possibility of mutual concessions, Artsakh President stated any conflict settlement and especially the Karabakh issue with its complexity might be resolved only through mutual concessions.
“Reasonable, just and equal mutual concessions are necessary,” said the President, adding ”We are ready to make concessions unless those do not disrupt the security of our state, do not serve an occasion for our adversary to attack us again.”
Speaking of the international recognition of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic and the success in that direction, Bako Sahakyan expressed confidence that Karabakh recognition will continue with even greater success in the coming future, positively affecting the stability in the region of the South Caucasus.
