Around 600 tourists visited Lake Arpi National Park
Issues related to ecotourism were discussed during the working consultation held in Shirak region, Armenian Ministry of Nature Protection reports, adding that around 600 tourists have visited Lake Arpi National Park this year.
Tourism development will not only create additional measures to ensure the preservation of the national park with proper quality, but will solve the social problems of the residents in the nearby communities. Furthermore, it will encourage tourism development in Shirak region.
The Lake Arpi is the second largest lake in Armenia and is found in north-western corner of Armenia on the border with Georgia and Turkey. The lake's water surface is about 3,139 ha, and it is found at 2020 m a.s.l. Lake Arpi is designated as a Ramsar wetland in 1993.
According to the release, Minister Aramayis Grigoryan gave instructions to actively cooperate with organizations specialized in tourism sector to develop ecotourism, offer quality service to tourists “strictly in line with requirements and criteria set by the RA legislation sand other legal norms.”
Lake Arpi is the second largest lake in Armenia located in northwestern of Armenia near the border with Georgia and Turkey. The lake's water surface is about 3,139 ha. The lake has rich flora and fauna. It is a Ramsar Convention protected site, and a national park was established around the lake in 2009
