Negotiation process should be completely changed, Ara Papyan says
“We have entered a final phase,” Ara Papyan, the Head of "Modus Vivendi" analytical center told reporters at a press conference, referring to the settlement process of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
“Kazan document appears to be the last available information. In my opinion, the solution within that format is unacceptable. Moreover, I do not share justifications we may avoid a war due to that. Unfortunately, we should realize the war will be more realistic and our positions will be more vulnerable if territories are conceded,” Papyan stressed.
To his words, Russia’s role has increased in the Karabakh settlement process, trying to play its own game. “We observe quite negative developments, since Russia tries to make use of the Karabakh issue to promote its own interest through pleasing Azerbaijan and bringing the state under its or EEU’s influence,” maintained Papyan.
To the speaker’s view, negotiation process of the Karabakh conflict should be completely changed
““The principle of territories in exchange for something” should be cancelled, since the idea of a mutual concession is not and may never be equivalent. Armenia should display a more proactive stance, developing relations with the West. That in turn may allow Russia to decide on adopting a certain policy on Armenia. Russia should make a choice and realize it may lose Armenia,” Papyan concluded.
