Larisa Alaverdyan on Karabakh settlement: Where should the line be drawn in the discourse of mutual concessions?
We have entered a new phase since May, head of 'Against Violation of Law' NGO Larisa Alaverdyan told reporters at a press conference on Monday, reflecting on the realities and possible development around the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
“There is no negotiation process, until Artsakh is involved in them. The process, mostly advocated by the Minsk Group Co-chairs, is in crisis, and not only cautious statements like “will try, seek, and do” by them are indicative of that,” Alaverdyan suggested.
To her words, the latest summits on the Karabakh issue reveal that neither Azerbaijan nor Armenia has changed their positions.
Alaverdyan doubted that the upcoming meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents might bring any positive result in the conflict settlement.
Speaking of the interview by Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan, Alaverdyan stressed she does not grasp the rhetoric of concessions and mutual concessions against the backdrop of the situation occurred in the course of the past years.
“I pose the same rhetorical question: Have you ever heard Azerbaijan speaking of any concessions or mutual concession? Azerbaijan says those are its territories and that some Armenian territories belong to them. Where should the line be drawn in the discourse of mutual concessions? I do not see. Azerbaijan says it will not start a severe war if territories are given,” concluded Alaverdyan.
