Ambassador Dzhagaryan: Russia has no intention of keeping a military base in Iran
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the Islamic Republic of Iran Levan Dzhagaryan has announced that Russia has no intention to a keep a military base in Iran. Ambassador Dzhagaryan’s comment came in an interview with “Tasnim” news agency.
Reflecting on the reports about Russian fighter using an airbase in western Iran to target terrorists in Syria, Ambassador Dzhagaryan clarified that the move had been preliminary agreed with the Iranian leadership and the future use of the military base by Russian air forces would be possible only after prior arrangement with Iran.
Levan Dzhagaryan has assured Russia respects the Constitution of the Islamic Republic, adding Russia has no aim of keeping a military base in Iran.
To Dzhagaryan’s words, Russia maintains only two military bases abroad – in Armenia and Tajikstan.
