Armenian Minister of Education and Science Levon Mkrtchyan has stated, that ministry works toward an ultimate goal of supplying hot meals to junior students of all secondary schools of Armenia. The minister’s comments came in a briefing with journalist in the auspices of the “2016 Global Child Nutrition Forum” happening in Yerevan.
Minister Mkrtchyan noted that if they manage to supple meals to all children up to the four grades, necessary facilities, will be established in schools.
School meals programme activities target communities in three regions: Ararat, Vayots Dzor, Syunik financed by the government of Armenia, while in other regions the donor for the programme is the government of the Russian Federation.
Around 83 thousand 1-4 graders are the beneficiaries of the programme, the minister informed, adding this year the programme implementation will cover Tavush region of Armenia.
“We will try to expand the geography of the programme implementation, even though it is quite costly. Except the meal, the programme has an educating role,” the minister stressed, adding a fund is envisaged to set up to involve international donors as well.
