Armenian Catholic Church in Diyarbakir to be reconstructed
St. Giragos Armenian Catholic Church located in Sur district of Turkish Diyarbakir city will be renovated, Ermenihaber writes, referring to a report by Armenian Istambul-based Agos newspaper.
Lastt year reports emerged that the Armenian Catholic Church of Diyarbakir had suffered extensive damages during clashes between Turkish armed forces and Kurdish militants.
According to the report, Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning has developed a plan of reconstruction for 11 historical buildings. The list includes the Armenian Catholic Church, and the reconstruction works are to be completed by 2018. Reconstruction works will be guided by the general department of Turkish foundations, which is currently the owner of the Catholic Church.
In 2013 the Armenian Church was reconstructed and served as a carpet workshop. Agos report suggests this time the renovated building will serve as a Church.
