Two brothers will run for Zovuni village mayoral elections
In Zovuni village of Kotayq region, Armenia, 4 candidates have nominated their candidacy for the head of community elections to be held on October 2.
As Panorama.am learnt from the Central Electoral Commission, two of the nominated candidates – Avetisyan Serjik and Avetisyan Sanasar - are brothers.
To note, Serjik Avetisyan is the acting mayor of Zovuni who has been in office since 1999. Avetisyan is backed by the ruling Republican Party, while his brother is a non-partisan candidate and serves as the director of “Aghbyur” LTD.
Panorama.am reached Mayor Avetisyan and asked his opinion about his brother’s nomination, as well as whether a scenario is possible for Sanasar Avetisyan to withdraw his candidacy at some point.
Mayor Avetisyan recommended us to refer to his brother.
Asked what are the relations between the two brothers, Avetisyan said: “We used to get on not very bad”.
Janibek Hayrapetyan and Vruyr Simonyan are another self-nominated candidates running to the elections.
To note the period of potential candidates submitting their nominations concludes today at 18:00. The candidates may withdraw their candidacy until September 22.
