Gagik Jhangiryan: We’re castrating prosecution so it has no real influence
Still in 1995, by the Constitution, the prosecution got rid of its authority for general control typical of totalitarian systems. The prosecution is also left out of civil disputes. Unfortunately, releasing ourselves from additional authority, we have brought another extreme, Armenian National Congress (HAK) member, Gagik Jhangiryan said at the National Assembly addressing the Prosecutor General candidate, Artur Davtyan.
“We’re narrowing those powers down, castrating the prosecution so that it has no real authority even during criminal proceedings,” he said.
According to the opposition member, the Prosecutor General has become an observer that doesn’t participate in criminal investigation process.
At the end of his speech, Gagik Jhangiryan noted that there’s a problem of justice in the country. “I want to believe that you will be the very Prosecutor General, who will take the first steps in this direction.”
